SBS Dateline: Anime Industry Turns to Porn to Stay Profitable Adrian Brown from Australia's SBS Dateline paints a comprehensive portrait of some of the difficulties animators and studios face in midst of declining birth-rates, shifting interests and illegal online distribution. Adrian Brown is considered to be one of Austrailia's most experienced Asian correspondents. His travels brought him to the Tokyo International Anime Fair where he interviewed a host of industry professionals and fans. Dateline is a multiple award winning program for Australians that focuses on current affairs affecting people outside of their shores.

(From SBS Dateline)
The
Japanese ‘anime’ animation industry is big business, worth $2 billion a year, but it’s facing some major threats and many companies are turning to anime porn just to survive.

The problems come from illegal downloading, which is hurting advertising sales, competition from
Chinese and South Korean animators, and dwindling interest from anime’s traditional audience of Japanese children.

There’s also concern that the anime porn depicts children in sexually explicit scenarios. One game is even called RapeLay and lets players choose their victim’s age.
