Let’s recap. Sakurai is a self-described “pacifist,” but that’s not a political statement so much as he means that he likes to live the quiet life. Y’know, living in a small nondescript town, going to a small, nondescript school. Palling around with his hot, nondescript “best friend” who wakes him up in the mornings, cooks for him, and walks with him to school. Trying not to fall asleep ‘cuz then he dreams these sad dreams about some sad angel that makes him wake up with tears in eyes. The stuff every normal, boring boy goes through. But his quiet life is interrupted when Ikaros, an angel and for all intents and purposes, heavenly sex slave, falls from the sky and into his life. She chains herself to him by giving him a magical metal leash, and tells him that she can do anything he commands. Make a billion yen on the spot? Sure. Turn him invisible so he can spy on his best friend while she’s dressing? Go for it son! And while you’re there, be sure to fondle your friend’s hefty bosom as “revenge” for all the times she called you a perv and slapped you. That’ll show her.
Prepare a sumptuous feast out of nowhere? No prob. Have him rule the world? That, Ikaros explains, isn’t possible for her, since no one actually likes Sakurai. So instead, she’ll just wipe out the rest of the human race. And how about making all that a bad dream so that Sakurai doesn’t have to live with the consequences of his decisions? Can do!
There’s a certain point where a show goes from dirty schlock to utter garbage, and Sora no Otoshimono proudly strides over that line. And it’s a testimony to the state of the industry that I am completely unsurprised that something like this exists. This episode went beyond being simply perverted and becomes outright misogynistic.
Summary: The hero is a coward; his love interest is simpering, masturbation material; his best friend is a stereotypical jerk and the plot is slovenly. Who’s up for some male chauvinism with their cartoons?
