Reviewed by: Jd Banks Directors: Akiyuki Shinbo and Ryouki Kamitsubo Animation Production: Shaft Based on the comic strip by Ume Aoki   Synopsis Yunocchi’s dream to attend Yamabuki Art High School has finally come true. With her three friends who live in the same apartment complex, she’s set on becoming an artist.

Jd’s Thoughts

Hidamari Sketch isn’t an anime that has power levels, villains, or even racy scenes. Instead, it is a slice out of real life for one girl and her friends. With its realistic premise, everything is agonizingly slow-paced, the first episode taking over the span of just one drawn-out day. Nothing climatic happens. Although Hidamari Sketch tries to be comedic, the episode doesn’t go anywhere. It focuses exclusively on Yunocchi’s rush to finish homework with her supportive friends, and that’s it. The only feature of Hidamari Sketch that’s remotely interesting is how cute the characters look.

Summary

If you like glacial down-to-earth anime with cute characters, Hidamari Sketch might be worthwhile. All others will be bored out of their minds.
