Chrome Shelled Regios Preview Chrome Shelled Regios is a cluster screw of characters in a series that seems to either skip through time or alternate between two stories. With that said, the overwhelming amount of action in the first ten minutes is overshadowed by the more developed middle act that shows us the lives of high school meta humans If you ignore the beginning and end of this first episode, you can piece together some semblance of a plot. Students with special powers are enrolled into a military academy where they compete to see who's the strongest. This story takes place during student orientation where platoons scout prospective members.

The leading male protagonist is Layfon Alseif. He's supposed to be on the guided studies track, far removed from the military, but finds himself forced into the military spotlight. He is recruited by the worst platoon in the school after heroically saving the life of a student after an unsanctioned fight goes horribly wrong.

There are minor comedic elements mixed with action and a strong narrative. This all occurs during the middle chunk of this episode. What surrounds Layfon and the other students is a mashup of s-CRY-ed and Evangelion. A group of super-powered beings watch over a platoon of sword-wielding warriors as they try to take down a mega monster that resembles a slug. The scene cuts back and forth between the monster fight and a carrier filled with scared passengers. This is all in the backdrop of a polluted desert wasteland.

The secondary story is not as interesting as the Layfon storyline, but might have something to do with the conclusion of his quest. There is a masked fighter that closely resembles Layfon in the middle of this action. Without knowing more, it's safe to say that the producers of this series know what their doing. Hopefully future episodes will bind these two tracks together.
