The concept here is outrageous, but it is one that somehow works. Seeing Capcom favorites like Ryu and Mega Man duke it out with characters like Ken the Eagle from Gatchaman and Karas is an absolute blast.
The demo at Anime Expo had the game mapped to arcade sticks. Gameplay is kept on a more basic level than other fighting games by utilizing a simplified 4-button control that corresponds to weak, medium, strong and assist buttons respectively. Newcomers will be happy to know that combos can be done with just a little bit of button mashing, but those who want to take their “A” game even further will realize the amount of depth involved in the game. TvC includes a fair amount of game lingo like baroque canceling and snapbacks.
Fans will be happy to know that not much has changed in the transition from Japanese to English audiences. Small cosmetic changes, such as the obvious English translations and the subtle change of the life bar color, doesn't detract from the overall gameplay. Though one character was cut from the roster--Hakushon Daimao from the anime Genie Family-- Capcom has announced that an additional five characters will be making the game once it releases state side.
There are also some balancing issues that will be fixed in the final stateside release. The fine folks at Shoryuken.com have posted some changes already. Be sure to look forward to more news about the game when it comes closer to release date this winter.
EDITORS NOTE: I posted that link up there so that I don’t have to include all the details in my writing. Shoryuken.com has a nice detailed list of differences. It is up to you guys if it should be put up or not, but I figured I still put it here for reference.
