Now Showing: FMA Brotherhood, Gundam, Boxee

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail
Since the advent of digital distribution, viewing anime is bigger than the current offerings of Adult Swim or Disney XD. With Crunchyroll and FUNimation’s pending Shodojo project, there is hope of having an amazing variety of resources for digesting anime content. In this new feature, we will suggest series and innovations that are available both online and through terrestrial channels.  This week includes the rebirth of Adult Swim’s anime block as well as some old favorites making their way to Crunchyroll.

Mobile Suit Gundam
In honor of the Blu-ray release of Mobile Suit Gundam (Unicorn), Crunchyroll launched the streaming of the very first Mobile Suit Gundam. This is the series that started one of the most impressive and daunting franchises in anime history. If you’re like me, you bypassed this series in favor of the condensed movies. Now you can enjoy up to 42 episodes of this groundbreaking series at your leisure.

Boxee: Anime on Your TV
On of the biggest hurdles for the digital distribution of anime is watching series on your computer screen. Now there is a handy dandy solution that eliminates this inconvenience. Introducing the Boxee! If you know how to connect your computer to your TV, you can download their application and then use their smooth interface to watch Crunchyroll series on your TV. There’s also the Boxee Box that allows you to connect a device to the Ethernet and watch it without needing a computer. Visit their official site for more information about their product.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Since its release earlier in 2009, FMA: Brotherhood was plagued with issues. Now fans have the option to view it for free on Adult Swim. Brotherhood will air on AS at midnight on February 14. It makes sense to kick off their new acquisitions with a franchise that brought prestige to the channel. With crisp animation, tighter storylines and plot structuring truer to the manga, FMA could be what anime on Television needed. Can anyone say Dragonball Z: Kai?
