Where it's Whiskey Thursday, all the time.

Welcome to the inaugural volume of The Fightbait Column, a weekly editorial in which I, Fightbait, give you my totally unbiased and always correct opinion about hot-button issues in the anime industry. Whether it be banter about an unsound decision a company has made, a complaint about the immaturity of anime fans in America, or a dissection of a specific show, I rant about something. Promise.

What does the future hold for 4Kids? Will one struggling company ever evolve their antiquated strategies to meet the demands of an emotionally unstable anime community? Will this article change the minds of the fans who get upset when a company does a poor localization job? One of those questions you already know the answer to.

Battle Royale 3D Conversion
Anyone remember the awful Battle Royale live-action film that simultaneously ignored the social commentary of the novel while glorifying the violence? Apparently Toei loves that movie so much that they've decided that it needed a 3D conversion.

Battle Royale, written by Koushun Takami, is the story of 42 high school students who are trapped on an island and forced to kill each other until only one remains. It's an allegorical tale about Japanese students and the constant pressure they're under to succeed. The book is phenomenal and should be read by everyone. The movie, on the other hand, is okay as a standalone gore-flick, but it doesn't hold a candle to the real story. However, it can be said that it's 9000 times better than the manga adaptation.

I recall reading an article in Wired magazine, back when Wired was actually interesting to me because it had Japanese pop culture updates.  Anyway, the article basically said that Akira was going to take on Mickey Mouse and win.  For some reason, I still remember that article all these years later.
