 Millennium Actress is a love story that is set in present day Japan, but also travels through several different time periods including: the Sengoku period and the not so distant future. It premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in July of 2001 and was released in the United States in September 2003. The movie has received critical acclaim both in Japan and the United States. Jane Summer from the Dallas Morning News said, “Anime has never been my cup of oolong. Or wasn’t until Satoshi Kon’s bold, time-traveling sophomore feature, Millennium Actress.” Interestingly enough, Millennium Actress also received the Grand Prize tying with Spirited Away in the Japan Agency of Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival.
