Anime3000.com interviewed Maile Flanagan, the raspy-voiced lead character in Naruto. We actually conducted the interview when the show still aired on Cartoon Network. It was a simpler time for anime fans, the calm before the double-whammy of losing One Piece and Toonami. Now that anime is making its triumphant return to Adult Swim, it’s safe to promote the stars of dubbed Japanese animation again. She talks about her first audition, getting the lead in anime’s most popular series and winning an Emmy for her voice work.

Go Sukashi!'s John Soares and Justin Spurlock
“Do you think evil is going to take a break long enough to put food on its table and pay its rent!?!”

Go Sukashi is the one of those shows that you didn’t know you wanted to watch. Based on a character created by otaku legend Shoko Nakagawa and produced by Doug TenNapel of Earthworm Jim fame, it’s a potent mixture of tokusatsu sentai action with Adult Swim-style non-sequitors.

Already providing more joy than the latter has in years, Sukashi follows the journey of a man on a mission. The mission: to fight the insidious invisible Rectanguloids and make Earth by, as the theme song helpfully points out, “getting his power from outer space." The problem? Sukashi lives in peaceful suburbia and no one else can see the demons that haunt him so.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of American voice actors in the anime industry. Some are swept underneath the rug, confined to the realm of voice acting—or so choose to be—while others climb the ladder, moving on and achieving success in Hollywood or on Broadway. One talented voice actor has seen it all. Despite the fact that his voice acting career has covered roles in anime, video games, and American cartoons, Lex Lang wasn’t always the tenor of these characters. In this exclusive Anime3000 interview, Lang comes clean about his bottle water company, his band, and the time he was shocked—literally—during his first voice acting experience.
