| Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Supernatural Well this story brings a few new elements into the mix, magic for one. The main character, Asakura Junnichi, a student attending Kazami Academy on the island with the always-blooming cherry blossom trees. Junnichi has the power to see people's dreams, although he doesn't know who's dream he's seeing. He also knows magic taught to him by his grandmother who apparently knew a lot, but Junnichi only knows how to make these little sweet cakes….so crap. Asakura Nemu, Junnichi’s sister, but not actually of any blood relation to him, so there are times when her feelings for him go, you know, somewhere other than the brotherly love. She wears a bell around her neck that was given to her by Junnichi when they were younger, there is a reason for it, but you’ll have to watch to find out. Yoshino Sakura, Junnichi’s cousin who went to America when she was younger grew up with Junnichi and Nemu. Sakura and Nemu get in frequent fights over Junnichi, although Sakura is more aggressive towards her love for Junnichi (really funny happenings come from this). She comes back to fulfill the promise her and Junnichi made when they were little…She’s adorable by the way. Amakase Miharu is another childhood friend, who is infatuated with Nemu, not in that way though. She loves banana’s so much its just plain weird, but really funny. One day though, Miharu is trying to rescue a cat (the cat is even important later) but something happens that day… Mizukoshi Mako and Moe are two sisters that go to Kazami Academy as well. Mako being the younger of the two, is quite attractive and has fans on both sides of the playing field if you know what I mean….girls also like her, there. Moe has that adult charm that shows up in anime’s, she’s uh, well blessed is a nice way to put it. Anyway, the two of them always have their own lunch casseroles on the roof of the school made by Moe who frequently makes very disgusting sounding food. Moe also plays the xylophone but for no apparent reason and has the habit of falling asleep randomly, very narcoleptic-esque. Sagisawa Yoriko happens to be found by Junnichi in the park when some local kids are picking on her for having (oh yeah) cat ears, and yes their real. She basically moves into the Asakura household as the new maid, but has an extreme fear of ever leaving the house. So the cat lady is a bit odd, but its explained in the story, so yeah there’s a point to it all. Shirakawa Kotori is the school’s idol, and rightfully so really, she’s quite popular and beautiful. Oh and one little other worthy note….she can read people’s minds! But, she’s quite timid, but has a wonderful singing voice that basically entrances everyone. And of course, she falls in love with Junnichi. Suginami is just about the only other male character here. He’s quite popular, intelligent, and all that, but kind of a little punk. Well he’s marked by the disciplinary committee at school so…And he’s also brought Junnichi into the fray a few times, but whatever, blah plot development blah. So that’s quite a lot of characters, and there’s so much weird stuff going on I don’t even have the space to tell you about. But it’s the good weird; its like discovering that you can microwave pop tarts. Okay seriously, who doesn’t have the time to toast a pop tart that they need to radiate it, and don’t even get me started on the fact that the pop tarts box has instructions…Alright my poptart tangent is over. Anywho, this anime involves weird magical people, telepathy, cat people, love issues like no other, AND it still finds a way to reasonably explain it all, it really does. We do get some great character exploration in this anime, and the fact that such weird traited people get thrown into the mix adds to the addicting quality of it all. There’s a second season that follows up this series, but I haven’t made my way to it yet. In the meantime, enjoy this one, I certainly did. Later days anime “Hi my name’s Kyo and I’m an anime addict” fans. -Kyo- |
