LOVELESS would fit under the “interesting” category of anime. LOVELESS is a Shonen Ai anime. For those of you that don’t know what the Shonen Ai genre is about, Shonen Ai anime are series that contain homosexual relationships. But, LOVELESS is a series that is different from any other, and it is much more than guys kissing every episode. There is a great mix of fantasy and action in the series as well. The series contains some of the most interesting and original characters you’ll meet. The younger aged people in the series have cat ears and tails. As they grow up, they lose their ears and tails and become adults. Not everyone loses his/her cat ears and tail, the 23-year old teacher still has her ears and tail. Since she is still a virgin, her ears and tail are still in tact. So the cat ears and tail represent a form of innocence still existent in the bearer. The story follows 6th grader Aoyagi Ritsuka. His elder brother, Aoyagi Seimei, was mysteriously murdered two years early, and Ritsuka is trying to solve the mystery of why his brother was killed. One day, Ritsuka meets Wagatsuma Soubi who was a friend of Seimei’s. Ritsuka learns that Soubi and Seimei were a fighting pair, and Seimei was killed by an organization known as the "Seventh Moon." Ritsuka then decides to join forces with Soubi and investigate his brother’s death further. In the process of trying to discover the truth, they get involved in some pretty eye-pleasing fights. The animation is very good, and the fight scenes really show it off. The voice acting is superb, and the characters are truly alive. This series definitely has something to appeal to everybody. It’s a great mix of different genres, and in an incredibly original manner. Please don’t let the Shonen Ai keep you from checking this series out. You might miss a really good series.
