| Gonzo's busy spring continues with Trinity Blood, their third series of the spring. This series goes out to all the fans of anime about vampires. That’s right, Trinity Blood has vampires and lots of them. Trinity Blood is the story of Peter Abel Nightroad, a priest that is a representative for the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Vatican. Yes, that’s right, I said the Vatican (can’t have vampires running around without the Vatican getting involved). The story is set in the far future after the Armageddon, where the world lay in waste, and the vampire species called Methuselah overwhelms mankind. There are three factions in this world, the Vatican, the Methuselah, and the Knighthood of the Rose Cross. Father Abel works with Sister Ester, and the two of them go out on various missions under the command of Cardinal Catherina Sforza. The missions concern the Methuselah and the Rose Cross, the two enemies of the Vatican. Sounds pretty straight forward, right? WRONG! Father Abel is also a vampire that feeds on the blood of other vampires (pretty cool, right?). Think of Trinity Blood as a mixture between “Trigun” and “Hellsing.” Oh, I guess I should explain how it is similar to “Trigun.” Well, Father Abel is kind of a dimwit, and has a very similar personality to Vash the Stampede. The character design and artwork is very good, reminds me of “Castlevania: Symphony of the Night” a bit. Gonzo does a nice job in that department. While the characters are not entirely original, they are enjoyable and I definitely like them. The action sequences are extremely well done. They are very tight and rather exciting. I highly recommend this anime to any fan of “Hellsing.” This show is right up your alley. Trinity Blood was recently licensed by Funimation. Funimation has nabbed all three new Gonzo series. So, anticipate a DVD release of Trinity Blood in the United States sometime in 2006. This series also has Adult Swim written all over it. Let’s hope it ends up on there as well.
